 Sam Rosenthal

Sam Rosenthal paints mostly cityscapes in a way that captures a scene's beauty without simply duplicating each detail as it is seen by most individuals. He tries to "to convey the drama, mystery, and complexity of nature and humanity" (samrosenthal.com). I really like Rosenthal's work because the colors really caught my attention. I love how each piece looks very realistic, but exaggerates elements many people probably miss when they aren't paying close enough attention to appreciate it.

Berthe Morisot

http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/morisot/  a short bio and pictures and details about her art

Morisot was born in France in the mid 1800's where she started painting at a young age and later studied art in the Louvre in Paris. Her art was first shown in 1864 in an art show, the Salon. As an impressionist painter, Morisot experimented with many types of subjects and mediums, but focused mainly on paint. I was interested in this artist's work because I really like her unique style and subdued color pallet. All of her pieces are very calm and soft.

Henri-Edmond Cross

http://www.artinthepicture.com/artists/Henri-Edmond_Cross/  short biography and photos and names of paintings

Born in 1856 in Douai, Henri-Edmond Cross studied both art and law in his twenties before moving to Paris where he focused on painting. He became known for his "Neo-impressionist Pointillist style," and his use of abundant amounts of color (henri-edmond-cross.com). Cross' style changed slightly over the years though, changing to softer brushstrokes and lighter colors after impact from Monet. I really like this artist's work because the vibrant colors are very cheerful and the pointillism is incredible.
